Goodreads summary:

"After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined."

Damn this book was pretty good. This is on the list of my top favorite assassins book for sure. This book had humor,  adventure, a bit of romance, and some mystery in it. I am not a big fantasy fan but I've became drawn into anything that has to do with assassins and royal family.

I love story about assassins because it is usually a female character and the female assassins are usually strong, confident,  and very smart and that is excatly how Celaena Sardothien was. Not only did her character protray all the characterstic I stated but she was also so witty and funny! Which made me love her so much more then I already did. I love how Celaena represent women in a different way, in a more powerful way then most women in the story. I love the fight in her and the courage she has in her heart as well.

Not only does Celaena represent women in a great way but so does Nehemia Ytger princess of Eyllwe. Her character was simply wise, I felt that she has plays a big part in the story but her voice and her story will really be told in the 2nd book. Nehemia is a close second to being my favorite character next to Celaena and I think them becoming friends really made me beyond happy. I feel that their strength and knowledge is going to be a force to be wrecking with in this world as the story continues.

I personally like the characters Dorian the crown prince and Chaol the captain of the guard but didn't love one more than the other.  I was constantly going back as fourth between which one I liked most and which one I find Celaena to be a better match with.  But I would really want to get to learn more about Dorian and Chaol friendship and what they have gone through together.  They are both different characters as Dorian being more emotional, flirtatious, and strong minded and Chaol being the more focused, chilled, and no nonsense type of characters and they both have a bond and connection with Celaena that any girl would love to have.  Yes there seems to be a tiny love triangle both Celaena isn't really focus on her love life bit more focused on the game and challenges that the bits and pieces we get of the love side of the story isn't annoying or bothering.

Overall I'm really happy I decided to pick this book up before the year end. It was excatly I was hoping it would be and more and I want to continue the series because honestly the story was just beginning!!!
